The Best Romantic Getaways in the South Okanagan Valley

Searching for a romantic getaway in the South Okanagan to celebrate your bond or reignite the spark? This beautiful region offers many options, from upscale waterfront hotel resorts to more intimate guest houses and vacation rentals.

JR and I have called Penticton home for nearly 10 years. In this post, I’m going to share my favourite romantic getaways in the South Okanagan Valley, from Summerland to Osoyoos. The list is a blend of personal experiences and recommendations from friends.

Romantic destinations in the South Okanagan

Time to get started on this list of my top recommendations for South Okanagan romantic getaways!

Summerland Waterfront Resort

For an all-in-one romantic getaway destination, consider the Summerland Waterfront Resort. Situated next to Okanagan Lake, this upmarket hotel offers spacious studio, one and two bedroom suites with everything you need for a short break.

Choose a suite with a lake view and enjoy the balcony experience. There are kitchen facilities but if you don’t feel like cooking, there is an on-site restaurant and a few other local options.

Beyond the rooms, other highlights include a large lakefront geothermal heated pool, two hot tubs, kayak/SUP rentals and iKhaya spa. At the latter, couples treatments and massages can be arranged.

Lost Moose Cabins, Penticton

If you’re looking for a romantic getaway with a more down-to-earth vibe, look no further than Lost Moose Cabins in Penticton. Located in a secluded and wonderfully quiet area just above town, Lost Moose offers three well-equipped cabins with private hot tubs. Cabin 1 is our favourite!

The 63 acre Lost Moose property feels like a world away from Penticton yet it’s only a short drive up the hill. The temperatures are cooler here and the stars brighter.

There are hiking trails super close by as well – no need to use the car to reach them. There are basic cooking facilities in each cabin but if you do want to go for dinner, a choice of restaurants is only 15 minutes away.

Penticton Lakeside Resort

Prefer to be closer to downtown Penticton? My top recommendation is Penticton Lakeside Resort. Located at the end of Main Street, this hotel is less than 10 minutes walk to most local restaurants.

The highlight, however, has to be the waterfront location. All rooms have a balcony and many offer beautiful lake views. The most modern and upscale rooms are found in the newer ‘West Wing.’

The Lakeside Resort has three on-site restaurants, a swimming pool/gym area and a private beach. For a romantic dinner, my top pick would be the Hooded Merganser. This restaurant-on-stilts sits directly on Okanagan Lake, with most seats offering great views.

Wesbert Winery Guest Suites, Naramata Bench

The second floor of Wesbert Winery is home to three beautiful guest suites, each featuring a private balcony with views of Okanagan Lake and the 3 acre working vineyard below.

The suites have some lovely amenities including king-sized beds, freestanding bathtubs, and a complimentary continental breakfast. There are shared coffee-making facilities and a small kitchenette in the communal area on the landing.

Even though the winery is located right on Naramata Road, the guest suites are on the other side of the building and remain perfectly peaceful. Wesbert’s wine tasting room is just down the stairs but there are many more within a 5-7 minute walk or even shorter bike ride.

Four Shadows Winery Guest House, Naramata Bench

Four Shadows Winery’s charming one bedroom vacation rental is ideal for a romantic getaway. The ‘Pinot Blanc’ guest house is situated by a gently sloping vineyard, with beautiful views of Okanagan Lake and surrounding mountains.

With a fully equipped kitchen and a shaded deck, you can fully enjoy this peaceful, rural retreat without ever needing to leave.

If you do want to explore, there are three other wineries located very close by (Upper Bench, Roche, Da Silva). Downtown Penticton is only five minutes drive away.

Convenience, privacy and solitude – this guest house ticks so many boxes for a romantic trip.

The Inn at Therapy Vineyards, Naramata

The Inn at Therapy Vineyards boasts five luxurious suites, each equipped with premium features such as spa-inspired bathrooms, wine fridges, king-sized beds, and granite countertops.

The suites are modern and spacious, with ample windows to enjoy the stunning views. Each room offers direct access to a private deck or patio.

Breakfast is included with every stay and served in the shared dining area. Outside, guests can unwind in the expansive hot tub or relax around the inviting fire pit. The winery’s tasting room is less than 30 seconds walk away.

Therapy Vineyards is 20 minutes driving distance from Penticton. The Naramata Inn (below) is a great option for a romantic dinner while staying here.

The Naramata Inn, Naramata

The historic Naramata Inn features twelve uniquely sized rooms, each thoughtfully renovated to blend period charm with modern amenities.

Every room offers access to the Inn’s upper veranda, where guests can enjoy beautiful views of Okanagan Lake and the surrounding mountains.

Though the rooms are on the smaller side, their character more than makes up for it, with features like clawfoot tubs (some with soaker tubs), luxurious linens, and plenty of heritage charm. The downside? The walls are on the thin side.

There are two on-site restaurants, both offering high-end cuisine. The Naramata Restaurant (main floor), specialises in seasonal cuisine made with hyper-local ingredients, while Eliza (downstairs) is a wine bar with a more casual approach.

Burrowing Owl Estate Winery Guest House, Oliver

One of my dream destinations for a romantic getaway in the South Okanagan is the Burrowing Owl Winery Guest House. This ten room property is adults-only. Each room has a private balcony overlooking the 140 acre vineyard.

There is a 25 metre pool with hot tub, both surrounded by a large sun deck. The winery tasting room is just steps away. There’s a restaurant too, the Sonora Room, and overnight guests have priority for patio seating.

If I stayed here, I don’t think I would leave the property. But if you do want to, there are many more local wineries to visit. Cycling is a popular way to go wine touring. I’d also suggest a stroll along the nearby Osoyoos Oxbows Trail.

Spirit Ridge, Osoyoos

Spirit Ridge is perched high above Osoyoos, offering breathtaking views of Osoyoos Lake. This expansive property features an all-suite hotel, a spa, two restaurants, a winery, a cultural centre, and a golf course, making it easy to enjoy a relaxing stay without leaving the premises.

There is a wonderful adults-only pool and hot tub surrounded by comfortable lounge chairs and day beds. This area has great views too.

The two on-site restaurants are fantastic – I’d suggest Nk’Mip Cellars for lunch and the upscale Syilx-inspired The Bear, the Fish, the Root & The Berry for dinner. Be sure to go for a wine tasting at some point as well.

Another option for a romantic getaway in Osoyoos is the Watermark Resort. Located adjacent to Osoyoos Lake, this property is perfect for couples who love to spend a lot of time in the lake. Of course, there is also a swimming pool area with two hot tubs, plus an on-site restaurant and spa.
