Our top picks for breakfast in Penticton

The below map displays all of our favourite Penticton breakfast spots, from Loki’s Garage and Stillfood Bistro to the Bench Market and the Dragonboat Pub.

Loki’s Garage

Loki’s Garage is our favourite place for breakfast in Penticton. If you like perfectly cooked poached eggs on fresh bread, covered with homemade hollandaise and accompanied by a crispy, melt-in-your-mouth hash browns, then you’ll probably love it too! The hashes and chicken and waffles are great too.

Quality ingredients, generous portions and an eye for detail make Loki’s a winner for us. Coffee is served in individual cafetières, only delivered to the table when it is ready to drink. As well as around a dozen tables inside, Loki’s has a sunny patio out front.

This restaurant is located in an former garage (hence the name) behind Front Street. It can be a little tricky to find if you don’t know downtown Penticton very well. Look for the side street next to the Lloyd Gallery, in the historic Empress Theatre building.

Stillfood Bistro & Cappuccino Bar

Stillfood Bistro is one of Penticton’s most unique breakfast restaurants. Totally vegan with plenty of gluten-free options, things are just done differently here. But in a way that will likely surprise you!

For one thing, Stillfood is kinda fancy. It definitely doesn’t shout ‘vegan.’ On top of that, the coffee is great and the baked goods are indulgent.

And then there are the brunch dishes. The Eggs Benny features a ‘Stillfood’ egg made from fully plant based ingredients, yet it looks and has the texture of a real poached egg, with a runny yolk and all. I’ve never seen this attempted so successfully.

The Mexican Fiesta bowl is also topped with a Stillfood egg and is a fun riot of colour and flavour. This fun and contemporary take on vegan cuisine is a gamechanger and may well convince some skeptics.

Wayne & Freda

While Wayne & Freda may be best known for coffee, it is a good option for a lighter breakfast.

Toasts, granola, breakfast sandwiches and grain bowls are the main features, with the latter being some of the most healthy and nutritious dishes available for breakfast in Penticton. On the other side of the spectrum, they also have a range of tasty pastries and cakes, ideal for breakfasts on the go.

The cafe’s name has an interesting story. When the owner’s started dating, they realised that their grandparents were in the same Penticton care home. Wayne and Freda’s friendship also blossomed and the cafe is a sweet nod to that.

Bright, airy and modern, Wayne and Freda is a wonderful place to sit, eat and people watch. There’s a large patio and it’s less than a block away from the beach as well!

The Bench Market

The Bench Market is a beloved fixture in Penticton. More than just a coffee spot, it offers a menu of healthy, seasonally inspired dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients.

Breakfast is served all day at the Bench, with an extended menu available in the morning and even more dishes served during the weekends (which is a shame as I love those dishes the best!)

The Bench’s breakfast staples include granola, a breakfast burrito, avocado toast and two egg meals, with weekend brunch featuring waffles and a few Eggs Benny varieties.

Tucked in a residential area just a short stroll from downtown, the Bench Market is the perfect stop if you’re heading to the KVR trailhead on Vancouver Place. As well as indoor seating, there is a sunny roadside patio with around half a dozen tables.

The Dragonboat Pub

The Dragonboat Pub is a relatively new restaurant at Skaha Lake Marina. This Penticton breakfast spot has an enviable location, with the dining room and adjacent patio having uninterrupted views of the lake.

As for the menu, it ranges from simple (granola, smoked salmon bagel, cinnamon bun) to more filling (avocado toast, bacon omelette and French toast) to the unique (bannock and curd, carnitas Eggs Benny). Overall, a good range to suit most breakfast cravings!

The Dragonboat’s patio is dog friendly, so keep this Penticton breakfast spot in mind if you have a furry friend with you!

The Bufflehead Café

Situated within the Penticton Lakeside Resort, the Bufflehead Café is a reliable breakfast option in the downtown area.

The menu has all the favourites from eggs, granola, french toast and pancakes to some more interesting options such as a croque monsieur, baked quiche, crepes and a smoked salmon bagel. There are four types of Eggs Benedict too, with two being vegetarian.

The lobby-adjacent dining space is pretty airy, with large windows looking out to partial views of the lake. In the warmer months, the bi-fold doors are opened and the patio and dining room become one. That’s when this Penticton breakfast spot really comes into its own.

The Prague Café

Love breakfast with a view? Check out the Prague Café, located opposite Marina Way Beach. While this casual cafe has minimal seating inside, it has one of the best ‘patios’ in all of Penticton.

Tables and Adirondack chairs sit on the lawn just above the beach, with a fabulous view of Okanagan Lake. This is a very popular destination for coffee, especially on the first Wednesday of every month when cyclists drink for free!

As hinted by the café’s name, the menu has a Euopean theme. Think homemade baked items (apple strudel, fruit cake), pastries, granola and cold plates (boiled egg, sliced meat, cheese).

Terry’s Comfort Food With Attitude

Known simply as “Terry’s” to locals, this diner style restaurant is the place to go when you’re really hungry. The portions are exceptionally generous and the food hearty. Arrive with an empty stomach or plan to take a box home!

Terry’s is best known for its breakfast bowls, which feature hand-cut, deep fried russet potatoes and spicy hollandaise. Pancakes, breakfast sandwiches (‘moofins’) and omelettes make up the rest of the menu, along with your standard eggs/bacon/toast dishes.

Tootsies Diner

Situated in the industrial area of Penticton, Tootsies Diner is a no-nonsense Mom and Pop kind of breakfast spot.

The diner is true 50s style, with retro fittings and vintage artwork. It’s a fun, casual place with friendly service. There is some outside seating during the warmer months.

The comforting menu covers all the classic breakfast options including the standard two eggs any style, breakfast sandwiches, omelettes and pancakes. They have biscuits and gravy too. If you like this style of breakfast, consider checking out the Bear’s Den as well.

Palmer Kitchen

The Palmer is the restaurant in the new Four Points Sheraton hotel by the convention centre and SOEC. Breakfast is served every day, with additional brunch options on weekends. Being so new, the surroundings are fresh and modern with high end style.

The standard breakfast menu isn’t super extensive but the classics are there – pancakes, 2 eggs any style, a bacon eggs benedict – as well as a couple of more upmarket choices like avocado toast and steak and eggs.

Things get a little more interesting on the weekends, with six different eggs benedict varieties, including two vegetarian options. There’s chicken and waffles too.
